The mausoleum currently stands as an open historic ruin, it’s roof and striking cupola, doors and windows have long since disappeared. It can be assumed the solid stone structure is stable, but not capable of withstanding any additional substantial load. The Mausoleum is “Grade 1 Listed”, meaning that existing fabric is legally protected from demolition and substantial alteration. However in achieving an appropriate solution, it Would be appropriate to make small scale, elegant alterations and interventions. Consideration should be given to the quality, atmosphere and flexibility of the theatre for Performance space. To be capable of housing a range of productions (and given it’s size) The seating arrangements and the staging areas should offer
simplicity and flexibility but Shall provide all the technical requirements and facilities required of a small Contemporary performance space.
How these new additions relate to the Existing building is of significant importance. The Trust would also welcome the Possibility of staging open air summer productions .
